Trail in Montvert Nature Park, a breath of fresh air!

Montvert is a great nature park close to Curepipe in the south of Mauritius.

This area tends to be much cooler than any other part of the island. That explains why it is so green!

Nature lovers will be delighted there. Umoov can guide you to it.

You can the excursion by visiting the arboretum that is about 1km away from the entrance of the park. There you will discover endemic species of the flora. Also an exhibition with photographs of plants and animals is displayed which explains the importance of the conservation of the forest.

At the entrance of the park, you will find a map showing the different trails options.

Several belvederes have been built in the park if you want to have a picnic or just have a rest.

During the trail, stay on the path! Do not forget to take insect repellent and solar cream with you. On the path, you will find signs with the name and descriptions of the species. You can see green species like ebony, tambourissa, sideroxylon…. And also observe birds from the platform that has been placed in the forest to trigger your curiosity.

Some conservation work has been undertaken by the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security to eradicate invasive species like goyavier de chine or the ravenal. Reforestation is a long term project! 

But it is never too late to save species.
